The four photographs contained within the folding screen were taken in a settlement called Sapa in northern Vietnam. The screen was crafted to expand the patterns of the ethnic textiles worn by the Hmong people living there, archiving their original landscape.
When did the relentless march of progress become a necessity? In the village of Sapa, nestled in the northern reaches of Vietnam, a way of life steeped in tradition had been faithfully passed on for centuries. Life is lived well, and culture is passed on through storytelling.
What does it mean when an era is reborn? Did we forget something important at that time?
屏風に収められた4枚の写真は、 ベトナム北部のサパという集落で撮影したものです。 そこに住むモン族が身に纏っている民族衣装の布の模様を拡張するように屏風を拵え、 彼らの原風景をアーカイブしました。
時が経つごとに常に成長しないといけなくなったのは一体いつからでしょうか。
昔からの暮らし方を何百年と同じように受け継いでいく村が、確かにここにありました。
良い具合に暮らしが成り立ち、語りによって文化が継承される。
時代が生まれ変わるとはどういうことでしょうか。
大事な何かをあの時の中に忘れていませんでしたか。
