This sculpture was intended to be displayed alongside antiquities from the Taiga Takahashi collection, necessitating a paperweight-like object to accompany the clothing description.
The main store of Taiga Takahashi features a stone sculpture created by Masatoshi Izumi, the stone sculptor who supported Isamu Noguchi. Furthermore, in 2024, an exhibition was held in the stone garden of the Sōgetsu Kaikan. Given these points, I perceived a strong similarity in their aesthetics and attempted to reference Noguchi's sculpture.
The form we referenced was Noguchi's 1974 sculpture titled “Petroglyph”. As “petroglyph” signifies characters or patterns carved into rock surfaces by ancient peoples, I considered it perfectly suited to this subject matter.
京都を拠点とするファッションブランドTaiga Takahashiのためのガラスの彫刻のデザインです。
この彫刻はTaiga Takahashi所蔵の古物と一緒に展示されることを想定し、洋服の説明文の文鎮のような物が求められました。
Taiga Takahashiの本店には、 イサム・ ノグチ氏を支えた石彫家の和泉正敏氏が制作した石の彫刻が据えられています。 また、 2024年には、 草月会館の石庭でも展示会を開催しています。 以上のことから、 彼らの美学は強い類似性を持つと思い、 ノグチ氏の彫刻の引用を試みました。
造形として参照したのは、 ノグチ氏が1974年に制作したペトログリフという題名の彫刻です。 ペトログリフとは、 古代の人々が岩石の表面に刻みつけた文字や文様を意味しまするため、 今回の題材に最適だと考えました。
